THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS WIN THE SUPER BOWL

Ann Stewart: The New England Patriots win Super Bowl XXXVIII with a 32-29 win over the Carolina Panthers in Houston, Texas. Tom Brady wins the Most Valuable Player again.

Scarlet Termite: Wow! What a game! Panthers didn't win but they sure played a great game! I am so impressed by Jake Delomme! What an arm! I haven't seen anyone fire it in like that since John Elway played. And the Panther offense was giving him all kinds of time to do it, too. He could've eaten his lunch back there. I know that they are all sad that they didn't win but they should be proud of themselves for the effort they put out. That was the best Super Bowl I have seen in years!

Backwards: The Panthers haven't ever won a Super Bowl.

Ann Stewart: Backwards I didn't know that...Thanks for filling me in...I am not much of an expert on football...I was for the Pats...but I would have been happy either way...I did get some nice pixs of Tom Brady after the game...The Pats only won by 3 points...Gee I hope that Panthers get their shot at it again...My favorite team is the Titans...but my second favorite is the Patriots...So I guess you saw Brady make most VIP player again hun?

Sindhu Kumar: It was oh so close!. This game will added to the list of all time classics of the Super bowl.

Michael Bohannon: Well, that was a great Superbowl! I thought either team was deserving of the win, but I was really hoping for our first Superbowl overtime. I didn't realize that kicking the ball out of bounds resulted in the ball being placed on the 40; I thought that it always came out on the 30. Maybe that's where the ball actually went out of bounds, but if not, I think automatically starting from the 40 is a little extreme. I understand the rule is there to deter the kicker from avoiding dangerous returns by simply booting the ball out of bounds, but the 40 yard line- that's just ridiculous. But like I said, I don't know where the ball actually went out of bounds.

I thought Brady was good, but I actually thought the MVP should have went to Vrabel. I know that sounds weird, but hey the guy made big plays on both sides of the field. He was everywhere!

OK.. prediction time: Titans 2005 Superbowl Champions and then Steve McNair retires and rides off into the sunset. So Patriot fans enjoy this one, because it's your last.

Sindhu Kumar: I echo your sentiments, Michael. Would have loved to have seen this game gone to overtime.

Michael Bohannon: I can't believe how bad Philadelphia plays in the big games! I hate that they lost, but clearly Carolina was the better team. This was the Eagles last chance I think. Deuce will be gone next year and maybe a few others. That's typical of the Eagles though. I'm rooting for Carolina in the Super Bowl, but I think New England is a far better team than any of the teams that Carolina has faced. I'm an old Philly fan, but I honestly don't believe they were that strong of a team. They got to the NFC Championship on luck and effort, both of which seemed to be lacking tonight. New England is a well disciplined team and don't make many mistakes. Yet I think it will be a good game.

Sindhu Kumar: Michael: this Super Bowl is well represented by the state of Louisiana. Jake Delhomme, quarterback of the Panthers, is from Lafayette, LA. and on the New England side you have Jarvis Green and Rohan Davey who are from here and went to LSU.

Ann Stewart: I’m rooting for the Patriots again…they are like my second favorite team…Tom Brady did a great job today…I won’t be unhappy if Carolina wins though cause they are long over due.

TALK ON PETE ROSE

Scarlet Termite: Ok since this is the sports forum, what do you guys think? Should Pete Rose be reinstated in baseball so he can be inducted into the Hall of Fame or should he continue to be banned? He did admit (finally) that he bet on baseball and on the Cincinnati Reds. The thing that makes me so angry about it is the fact that he damaged the game and the team that gave him so much and is still unrepentant about it. I haven't followed it closely enough to know if the timing of his admission has to do with cutting a deal with the MLB. I wouldn't be surprised, frankly. It's just rotten. What he did was illegal and rotten and I think that he doesn't deserve to be reinstated to baseball or inducted into the Hall of Fame. There are far better candidates, I am sure.

Erin: Totally agree Scarlet. Pete Rose is a huge disgrace.

Steven Bohannon: I agree with you, Scarlet. We'll always appreciate what Pete Rose did as a manager and a player, but his cheating (betting on baseball) was just exacerbated by all these years of constant denials. If the baseball commissioner and any of the other powers in baseball have any conscience (now that's a perplexing thought), they should not reinstate Pete Rose. I know known of us are old enough to remember that scandal with the White Sox when they threw that World Series in the early 1900s, but those guys and that franchise were tainted for a long time by the scandal, and are still referred to as the "Black Soxs". Pete Rose deserves the same comeuppance. Anyway, I agree, don't allow him in the Hall of Fame. Put people in there who better represent the ideals of sportsmanship...even though there are likely some already in the Hall of Fame that did worse things than Pete Rose. Thanks for the vine. :)

Ann Stewart: My opinion is very much the same as your folks, but I would induct him to the Hall of Fame and the Hall of Shame at the same time. Than he could be a great example of both.

Scarlet Termite: Is that pretty much the whole thing? I can post that, no problem. I will caution Mr Hemmer that I disagree with him. Banned from baseball is banned from baseball and no matter how good an athlete Rose was he still embarrassed and disgraced the game.

Backwards: That was pretty much it, but before billyboy went on his rant, Jack called Pete Rose, "Charlie Dirtbag". To which billyboy corrected him by saying "Charlie Hustle. Peter Edward Rose to you from (don't know the name of the town b/c it was garbled), OH". Jack went into his litany and ended it with "Bill still thinks he's a great guy." And that's when billyboy said what he said.

Wai lin: I think that if Pete rose is inducted to the hall of fame there should be some sort of note or disclaimer that about the scandal and him being banned from baseball. Can you tell I watch too much PTI?

TITAN TALK AND TALK ON JEFF FISHER'S SEXINESS

Sissy: OMG, how sexy does Jeff Fisher look with that gray in his beard?

Ann Stewart: Hey Sissy he's sexy and Titans won today, beating Baltimore by 3 points.

Jennifer (Bush Supporter): Jeff Fisher is the hottest looking man and a great coach. GO TITANS. Jeff is doing a great job. Titans we're 12/4 until this game and we just won another one. harrah harree and yep yeppy!!!

Sissy: I watched the game today. That means I'll get to see that sex pot again next week. I can't wait!

Backwards: Yeah, but Dallas lost. WOOHOO! Now about Jeff Fisher...I'm not a facial hair kind of girl but, Sexy Indeed!

Michael Bohannon: The irony of the Titans' win is that Eddie George was the pivotal element. He ran the ball like he did when he first came in the league and helped the offense retain possession on several crucial occasions. Titans, after gaining the lead, went into their classic conservative play-on-your-heels mode and it almost lost them the game. The defense wasn't exactly in prevent defense, but the DBs were playing incredibly far off the line and there was no pressure put on Wright. He was able to drive down the field and even the score. Yet, the Titans pulled it off and hopefully Eddie exorcised the Ray Lewis demon. Coincidentally, I thought George leveled Lewis a good one during the game and yet there was no mention of it. When Eddie and Ray were jawing each other near the sidelines it was because Eddie was gloating about how he had ran Lewis over. It may seem trivial to the rest of the country, but here in Tennessee we knew what that hit meant for Eddie. Maybe now he's got his confidence back and he can stop tip-toeing through the defense and start punishing the opponent.

DC: Annie, it was great to see your Titans win! Won a hundred on them!

Ann Stewart: Yeah everybody is celebrating in Tennessee. I would have got drunk if I drank. I'm a happy duck anyway.

Sindhu Kumar: Now, let's pray that the titans make it the Superbowl for the sakes of their former home, Houston, who did not build them a stadium and their new home, Nashville, who welcomed them with open arms.

Ann Stewart: Yeah Sindhu--I live right by that wonderful Titans stadium too. It made my property value go up, so I love that stadium.

Jennifer (Bush Supporter): I saw George Bush on the television talking about how Mad Cow won't affect us and that he is eating beef today. I just thought that was a interesting thing to say by the President. Now if there is a major Mad Cow brake out the Dem's can say it's his fault, like they always do. It's like point the finger at the man you choose. When the blackouts happened they blamed him for that too, the dem's will probably blame him for this too.

Wayne in Missouri: DC,--I do blame Bush for the Texas Rangers consistently finishing last in their division though :-). As GM of the Rangers he traded Sammy Sosa to the Cubs among his list of many bad decisions. Just goes to show that people should be hired based on their ability to do the job and not on their family connections. Since we're talking sports I figured I'd sneak that one in there ;-). DC: Wayne........GWB did NOT trade Sammy to the Cubs, he traded him to the White Sox! The White Sox traded him to the Cubs for filling station magnate George Bell!
George Bell proceeded to hit 63 homeruns for the sox, while Sammy has hit 510 for the Cubs! Some trade eh?

Ann: Hey Steve and Sindhu I heard that OU and LSU are going to the sugar bowl anyways, even if they lost the last game. You know they didn't just lose. They were beat to death. So are you still upset big brother?

Scarlet: OU and LSU is still going to be a killer ball game and I will watch it. I will also watch, with glee, K State pummeling the poo out of OSU!

Steve: Hey, Ann: Not upset. I got over that fairly quickly...I was just bewildered about how badly they played in the Big 12 championship. I'm glad they get to go to the Sugar Bowl. It depends on which team shows up if they can play up to LSU's caliber, however.
Merry Christmas, Scarlet, does KSU play OSU in Tiempe at the Fiesta Bowl? Wow I think KSU wins that as well. I think KSU and Michigan are the best two teams in the country now, just don't have the best records. Happy Holidays

Talk on the Tennessee Titans

Ann Stewart: Well Tennessee still hasn't won the Super Bowl yet, but they are looking good this year. They got a better start this year than they did last year in the beginning of the season.

Jennifer: The Tennessee Titans bet the Atlanta Falcons 31 to 38. Go Titans!!! What a team. What a Team. What a Team. Hurrah yeah

Michael Bohannon: I Hope Steve McNair's injury isn't serious. I never did hear anything else about it. I was impressed with his backup; it's good to know that the Titans have a backup that is capable of taking the reigns, although Atlanta isn't exactly the best team from which to judge his performance. No injury of course is a good thing, but if it had to happen I'm glad it happened against Atlanta. Then again, Indy is playing some good football right now and with the race as close as it is, the Titans can't really afford any losses.

Michigan In The Rose Bowl

Steve Bohannon: Well, USC, LSU or Michigan could give OU a run for the money. What I like about this year's team is that they don't take anything for granted.

Sindhu Kumar: If LSU wins the sec championship, look for them to make a trip to the sugar bowl after defeating the rebels.

Scarlet Termite: I don't see anyone stopping the Sooners this year.

Ann Stewart: Sindhu--You know I love you, but I do not think LSU has a chance against the Sooners. I just don't see it.

Sindhu Kumar: True that they may not have a chance, but I think that anything is possible.

Steve Bohannon: LSU will have to jump USC in the BSC rankings, but it is possible. LSU has a tougher strength of schedule in the formula, and has more difficult remaining games. In addition to the SEC championship, where LSU will likely play Georgia (a very tough opponent), they also have Arkansas remaining at home. USC only has Oregon State. I don't think LSU will jump USC in the polls, but their strength of schedule may push them past USC in the BCS rankings. Sindhu, are you relieved that LSU made it past Peyton Manning and Mississippi yesterday? That was a nail-biter; the Rebels missed that field goal or it would have been tied. LSU would be a strong opponent in the Sugar Bowl for Oklahoma.

Sindhu Kumar: Well, thank you Steven. Oh yeah, I am so glad that they got passed Eli manning (Peyton's younger brother). I like LSU's chances of bumping USC but that remains to be seen as I am hoping LSU plays Oklahoma for the sugar bowl.

Steve Bohannon: Hey, Scarlet--That is funny about Barry Switzer. He was a character, either loved or hated. Mostly hated because his teams had such great success on the gridiron. I met him one time while a student at OU at a movie theater with his family. He waved and was very friendly. He was very accessible to the fans. In pro football, I like the Dallas Cowboys. Now there's a team either hated or loved. The Tuna has really turned them around, and QC has been playing great. They have a great defense. I think they'll get a reality check the rest of this season though, because their schedule gets much more difficult.

Man I wish I could get that from my job. He was only like 24 when they won that year. He's like one of the youngest quarterbacks to win in the super bowl. Talk about talent and good look’in too. Jennifer: Are we going in to sports men now? If so I want the head coach on the Titans on the list. Jeff Fisher. He's a fine man. I think he is so handsome. Hi Sindhu--What do you think about Jeff Fisher the Titan's Head coach? I think he's a handsome man. Ann Should add him to list.

Ann Stewart: OK ladies--I do believe they are fine men and I will be happy to add them to the Prettyboys list, but can you give more comments on them? Post it in the box below. I really don't know much about theses guys. All though I did see Jeff Fisher once at a football game here in Nashville and he has a short fuse. That man gets so mad when there is a bad play by the Titans team. I think some of the looks on his face are so funny when he gets mad. I'll just call him Mr. Mad fighting duck. Steve McNair is awesome, but I think the world believes he carries the entire Titan's team and I wish they would give more of the other team members credit like the defense members such as Jevon Kearse and Keith Bullock. Somebody once stated to me "McNair is the team. He’s the whole team.I don’t really agree and I think that makes the other team players look sad.

Manda Panda: Another nifty thing about Forsberg, during the 2000-2001 playoff run, he endured a massive body check from Mattias Norstrom, and ruptured his spleen. He took the next year off to "recondition" himself, came back in the playoffs, and lead in scoring. Not to mention that when Colorado got knocked out, there were still two rounds left. No one even came close.

Sindhu Kumar: You should also add that Capt. Stevie Yzerman of the Detroit red wings (one of my favorite hockey teams) won the gold medal for the Canadian Olympic hockey team at the salt lake city Olympic games in 2002 against the united states.

Scarlet Termite: Sindhu! You love the Wingies, too? They are my team! I have watched them since Jacques DeMers coached them. Remember Bobby Probert? You bet that Stevie Wonderful is hot. Sergei Federov needs to go on the list, too. He is schweet! I also think that Brendan Shanahan is a cutie.

Manda Panda: Red wings? Predators? AVALANCHE!!! You people, sheesh :-p funny story about the predators actually.... I was standing in the arena this summer for the draft, and actually said, "whoa, Nashville's got a hockey team?!" I also forgot I was in Tennessee. Oh, I'm trying to come up with some pick-up lines, and I'm running scenarios over in my head, and all I'm coming up with is me standing there with my mouth hanging open and not breathing. yeah. I'm a dork when it comes to guys :-\

Ann Stewart: Well we darn sure better have a Hockey team, cause our football team is starting to tick me off. When will the Titans ever win the Superbowl? We always come so close and than we blow it.

Sindhu Kumar: Manda honey, hockey stars are just as good looking as film stars from Hollywood.

Manda Panda: Oh don't I know it. if he wasn't engaged or dating or whatever, I'd be out in Denver with Peter Forsberg ::snaps fingers:: like that. soooo hot

Scarlet Termite: My antenna are gonna fall off from all the wiggling. Tell you what, Manda, I have the same thought about the Blue Jackets. And as far as hockey players go, they all rock except Chris Chelios. I still can't forgive him for the nasty play he had when he was with the Blackhawks. But you know any good Detroit fan hates Chicago anyway. Couldn't believe it when I saw him in a Wings uniform. And they are as good looking as any actor. Steve Yzerman runs rings around my most loved Bill. What a man! Oh another story about that for you Manda. I used to live in Detroit and watched the Wings on the local station. The announcers were Dave Strader (who is with ESPN or FOX now) and Mickey Redmond who was the color guy and a fomer Wing. Now I had always thought that ole Mick had him a beer or two in the booth during a game a la Harry Carrey because he kept getting more and more colorful as the game went on and by the third period he was downright Technicolor sometimes. So anyway, one night I am watching the game and there is a big pileup in the Wings zone. Suddenly, here comes Steve on a breakaway, just scootin' down the ice. Of course everyone is gettin excited and then Mickey says, " Well, sure looks like the Wings are shooting their wad tonight!" Dead silence for like almost five minutes. I was howling! Then Dave finally comes on again and he was still having trouble talking. It was hilarious!

Manda Panda: How often to I pee my pants.... hmm.... only when I laugh really really hard. Scarlet, that's funny stuff. Hilarious! I can see the Sabres' colour man saying something like that, just because no one would hear him! hahaha Ahhh.... and I still can't come up with any pick-up lines!! My brain's just freezing up here, it's sad.

Talk On the Oklahoma Sooners

Steven Bohannon: Oklahoma Sooners College OU is number 1. They have not lost a game they are 9 and 0. They beat Oklahoma State and beat them 52 to 9 today. Most of the talking heads at ESPN claim they will go all the way to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans with out a defeat. Many schools claim they match up with OU and could beat them, but they will probably have to get to the Sugar Bowl to find out. Go Sooners!!!

Ann Stewart: Nice comment and info big bro. You think the Oklahoma Sooners are going to win the Sugar Bowl this year. You graduated from college there so I guess you're a happy guy. Keep me updated on them. You're the best.

Let's Talk Sports

Ann Stewart: I'm glad to see with new opening of my Sports talk line there has been a lot of people who have participated in telling sports stories. If you got some special sports stories, you know I want to here them. Just click here to my talk line and tell me your favorite sports story. Here are a few good Sports comments that have come in.

Scarlet Termite: Michigan/Michigan State was a great game. Then, unfortunately, Penn State was unable to beat Ohio State. My favorite college team, by the way, is whoever is playing Ohio State.

Steve Bohannon: I watched the last few minutes of that Ohio State vs. Penn State game as well. I was routing for Penn State. Haven't appreciated Ohio State much lately since the choking incident at Wisconsin and the whole Maurice Clarett stuff. Anyway, gotta feel for Joe Pa letting another one slip through his grasp. What is your favorite team, other than the anti-Ohio State, in college football?

Scarlet Termite: Steve, I like Michigan and Michigan State which meant that Saturdays' game was win/win for me! When I lived in Memphis I rooted for the Razorbacks (WooPig!) because I had a good friend who was from Ft. Smith and was a huge Hog fan. But always I go back to Michigan. I am of the opinion that OSU is an embarrassment to the Big Ten and it is unfortunate that a classy guy like Jim Tressel is involved in it.
I also thought Perrys' performance in the game was outstanding. What an amazing display of stamina. Plus in the Penn State game, did you see where the PSU player got hit from behind? It was brutal. And I bet he shook it off and went back in. Krenzel gets the wind knocked out of him and he's out for the rest of the game. Sheesh!
Anybody see the UK/Arkansas game? Man alive! UK got some big quarterback! He's HUGE!

Steve Bohannon: Scarlet, I saw that Ark vs. Kentucky game. What a show stopper. 7 overtimes. Matt Jones and the Kentucky qb (Lorenze, sp?) were awesome. Not much defense in the overtimes, but for sheer drama, can anything in the NFL match college OT? I don't think so.

Scarlet Termite: The back and forth in the UK/Ark game reminded me of the Fiesta Bowl last year. As much as I dislike Ohio State I have to say that was an awesome ballgame. The UK quarterback's name is Lorenzen I think. That kid is dang near 300 lbs.! He's got three guys on him and he's still throwing the ball and completing it, too! Amazing!
